Involving Parents

Apollo encourages and values parent involvement. Apollo will solicit parent input through various means such as the SAC (School Advisory Committee), PTO (Parent Teacher Organization), Annual Title I meeting feedback, feedback from Parent Engagement Events, BPS parent survey, and Title I EOY surveys. District Accountability data and school grade status will be shared via our newsletter and Facebook.

The SAC will participate in developing and reviewing the SIP (School Improvement Plan), the PEFP (Parent Family Engagement Plan), and the School-Parent Compact. The PTO will also be involved in reviewing the PEFP and the School-Parent Compact. Input into the CNA (Comprehensive Needs Assessment) is requested for all families.

Full Participation

Activities, events, opportunities, and areas of need will be communicated in an easily understood language and format. If a parent has limited English proficiency, a disability, or is part of a family in transition, is homeless, or has a migratory status, services will be provided as needed for full participation. All Title I information will be communicated through all possible means. Translated documents are available in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole as well as other languages through Google Translate.

Training School Staff

Apollo will educate and provide training to staff regarding the value of parental involvement, how to build partnerships and strong meaningful relationships with our students and their families.

Title I Annual Meeting

Apollo will hold an annual meeting to inform parents about the Title I program. This information is available for review in the front office and on the school’s Title I website.

Parent Notifications

As required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) the following information is to be shared annually with parents:

Right to Know Information

All parents of a student in our school have the right to request information about the professional qualifications of the teachers or teaching assistants who serve their child.  This information can be found in the Title I Parent Notebook in the front office

Non-State Certified Teacher Notification

ESSA requires schools to notify parents when a teacher, who does not meet State certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which they are assigned, teaches your child for four consecutive weeks. It is Brevard Public Schools’ policy to only employ state-certified teachers. However, we will send home a letter providing you with specific details about the situation if this ever occurs.

Title I Complaint Procedure

If any LEA or School Plans (e.g. Title I LEA Plan, Title I LEA PFEP, Title I School PFEP or SIP) are not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, the school district will submit any parent comments with the Title I, Part A plan when the school district submits the plan to the State Department of Education.  Parents must be informed of their rights to submit comments/concerns.  Comments received at Title I schools MUST be forwarded to the district Title I department and those comments will be included with submission of the LEA Title I Plan, as required.
