Meet Harbor City's M.F.L.C./ Military & Family Life Counselor, Ms. Sandra Walker
Free and confidential non-medical counseling is available to Active-duty service members and their families, including the children of Harbor City Elementary School. Some goals of this counseling service can include the following: Managing stress, increasing self-esteem, strengthening relationships, providing resources, and increasing resiliency; We also help service members, and their families address the day-to-day stressors of military life and the impact of deployment and reintegration. Issues can include communication, family dynamics, grief and loss, deployment and reintegration, transitions (parental divorce, relocation), and social skills. In summary, the primary role of your M.F.L.C. is to provide supportive counseling services to Military children and their families.

Transition Plan for Military Families
1. Identify as Active Duty
2. Fill out a form to meet with our MFLC
3. Set up a conference with the principal/teacher
4. Join our school military team or PTO to assist with events
5. Military student goes on a student-led tour of Harbor City
6. Website and supports shared with new families
Academic Planning for Military Families
1. Review of academic records
2. Parent identifies areas of concern with team
3. Student discussed in grade level data chats
4. Student included, as needed, in classroom Tier II and III interventions
5. Student included, as needed, in enrichment or referred for gifted testing
6. Teacher and counselor available to meet to discuss any parental concerns
Resources and Educational Opportunities for Military Students
1. Students may join clubs on campus once enrolled - Listed in Parent Newsletter
2. Parental newsletter includes resource links for military parents to access
3. Military students will participate in military-based events: Veteran's Day, Purple Up events, interviewed for QTV, marking deployments on a school-wide map, Veteran's Banner, etc.

School Student Led Transition Program
1. Student Council will lead a student tour
2. Military students will be introduced to school personnel across the campus
3. Student will be introduced to other military students
4. Social/Emotional supports in place in the classroom and though guidance
