What is the Cambridge Checkpoint Program?

The Purpose:

  • To prepare students with the foundation for expectations in specialized, advanced academic programs in high school.

  • Cambridge classes at the middle school level help prepare students for the rigor and success in the nationally recognized Cambridge Program at Titusville High School.

  • Students who earn a high school diploma with a Cambridge seal will automatically earn a Bright Futures scholarship.

Cambridge Checkpoint Program Emphasizes:

  • The development of oral, practical, and thinking skills, as well as the acquisition of knowledge.

  • The application of real-world skills, knowledge, and a deeper understanding of why this knowledge is necessary.

Cambridge learners will become:

  • Confident in working with information and ideas

  • Responsible for themselves, responsive to and respectful of others

  • Reflective as learners, developing their ability to learn

  • Innovative and equipped for new and future challenges

  • Engaged intellectually and socially, and ready to make a difference in the world.

  • Content in the Cambridge Program is delivered through traditional academic and project-based learning units that enrich students’ knowledge while allowing them to master academic content.

  • *Students have a core team, including a Civics, Language Arts and Science Teacher.

  • Math is skills based.

  • Drone Club- They build and 3d print drones and compete at local challenges.

  • Science classes- Harris stem challenges- they take their science knowledge and use it to design a solution to a problem.

  • *Escape rooms- Students apply their science knowledge to escape the room.

Who is eligible to participate in the Cambridge Program?

All students are welcome to apply, but there are some requirements.

  • Students should have a 3.0 or higher GPA (grade point average) for this current school year.

  • You will submit the end of year 5th grade report card and end of first semester 6th grade report card.

  • 2 Teacher Recommendation Forms- submit email addresses online

  • A written essay explaining why the student would like to participate in the Cambridge Program which include career goals and future educational plans

  • 2024 FAST Score Reports (for PM2) for ELA and Math/ or equivalent state testing results

  • If you do not have your child’s report, please look on FOCUS

How do I start the application?

•If you go the Brevard County website, choose Jackson Middle School.
• Click Academics, then click the Cambridge link which will give you access to start the application.
• You will begin by setting up your Family Dashboard.
• All documents will be uploaded here.

** Tier 1 and Tier 2 proof of residency
• Follow the step-by-step instructions.
• The application window begins January 15, 2024.
• All new students must apply to the program by February 23, 2024.

If I am not zoned for Jackson, can I apply? Yes, there is a once a year $30 application fee to apply and renew. Is there transportation? Unfortunately, there is no corridor busing for this program.

What time does school start and end?
Doors open at 9:00 / 1st period bell is at 9:27

School ends @ 4:15/ Early Release days @ 3:00

How will I know if my student has been accepted?

•Acceptance Notification will be alerted via Family Dashboard the week of March 6-10, 2023. Parent must accept the seat. •Your student may be placed on the waitlist if all seats have been filled. Students will be pulled from this list as registration occurs in the fall.

Cambridge Showcase

  • Tuesday, January 16, 2024

  • You will experience a typical Cambridge schedule

  • 5 classes including electives!!

  • Pick up your schedule at 5:45 PM on the patio

  • Classes will run about 20 minutes and the evening ends at 8 PM

  • Be sure to RSVP tonight, so we have a schedule ready for you!!
