Media Center

Welcome to the Oak Park Media Center

The Oak Park Media Center is located directly behind our front office and we like to think of it as the heartbeat of our school. Mrs. Ruby Heffington is our Library Media Specialist.   We strive to provide quality literature resources for our students and offer instruction so that they can independently locate information for their research needs.

Oak Park Media Center goals include providing a warm, positive, inviting atmosphere where students are encouraged to further explore topics that are being taught in the classroom. Students are encouraged to feel comfortable in reading for pleasure and to become information literate. Students can achieve a few of these goals through participation in the MyOn.com and i-Ready reading programs, as well as the Sunshine State Young Reader's Award program. In addition, our Pre K, Kindergarten, First and Second Grade students participate in the Sunshine State Young Reader Award, Jr. program. Computer access is available in the Media Center as well as individual classrooms.

The Sunshine State Young Reader's Award is a statewide reading motivation program for students in grades 3-8. The program is cosponsored by the School Library Media Services Office of the Department of Education and the Florida Association for Media Education (FAME). The Florida Reading Association program encourages younger students to begin to appreciate quality literature. Students in grades K-2 will listen to fifteen different nominated titles during their Media class time and vote for their favorite selection in the spring.
