Transition Planning for Military Families

All students enrolling at the SALC participate in an individual student and family intake meeting. Through this meeting, students and families are provided a variety of information and resources to best support their student transitioning into an alternative education setting.

  • Transition Planning at the SALC is unique to each student. Please contact our Certified School Counselor and/or School Social Worker for more information about how we can best support your individual student.

Academic Planning for Military Families

  • Information regarding academic standards and opportunities, graduation requirements, DE and AP course offerings, applicable CTE programs, etc. for Brevard Public schools can be found in the Student Progression Plan on the BPS Curriculum and Instruction website.

  • https://www.stepupforstudents.org/ Scholarship resources available to students in Florida in a variety of categories (tax credit, unique abilities, New Worlds reading, Hope, transportation, etc.)

Student Led Transition Program

  • The South Alternative Learning Center engages all students through our Peer Counseling program to support all students in positive decision making, goal setting and planning, and positive peer relationships. Student leaders are identified and connected with new, incoming students to ensure a smooth and successful transition under the direct supervision of a certified teacher.

  • BPS and the SALC are committed to ensuring a peer-led, safe, and positive transition for students from military families into our schools. For support, please contact the Military Point of Contact listed at the top of this webpage.

Information on Exceptional Education Services

  • Brevard Public Schools provides a range of ESE resources, including school-specific support for families navigating transitions with IEPs and 504 plans. For more information, please visit the BPS Exceptional Education Services website.

  • The Following ESE Support Services are available to students at the SALC:
