Sea Park Talented Program 2024-2025 Information
Hello there,
My name is Samantha Manchur and I am the Gifted and Talented Services teacher at Sea Park Elementary. I am reaching out to you today to inform you of changes that are being made to our G&T program as well as the procedures for obtaining entry into the class. Talented students are defined as those who score at least one 4 and one 5 on their most recent FAST tests. To keep their spot in the class, students must keep their standardized test scores at this level. They must also be receiving nothing below a B- on their report card. Being in the class the previous year does not guarantee students a spot this year.
This class will be a hybrid class for those designated as Talented and Gifted. Gifted and Talented are not the same designation. Gifted students are defined as those scoring a 130 or higher on an IQ test with a psychologist. It is not based on academic performance. If you think your student is gifted and would like them tested, please contact me about filling out the paperwork for them to be screened. You can also have your student privately evaluated for gifted designation outside of BPS at your own expense. If a student is designated as gifted, they have a permanent seat in the class, regardless of standardized test scores.
G&T 2nd-6th graders will meet once a week. If you do not wish for your child to attend, please let me and their general education teacher know. There will be a permission slip that must be returned to your child’s teacher in order to attend the class. Only Gifted Kindergarten & 1st grade students will receive weekly pull-out time.
Our class will be tailored towards enriching above grade level students and students who think outside the box, meaning we will work on assignments such as:
Junior Grade Books (texts that are higher than grade level lexile)
Lego Robotics
Brain Quest
3D Printing
Rubix Cubes
Math Enrichment (pre-algebra for 6th grade FAST level 5 students)
If you have any questions or would like to speak further about your child’s placement, you can contact me below. Please note that I am full-time between two schools, Sea Park and Surfside. I am at Sea Park Tuesday, Thursday and every other Friday.
Best,
Samantha Manchur
