PBMHS offers a variety of ways for students to earn college credit. One of these ways is through taking Advanced Placement classes. Advanced placement classes are college- level classes taught at the high school by high school teachers. Students will take an AP exam in May and, if they receive a level three or higher on the exam, colleges may award them credit. Colleges will give credit as they see fit- the scores required, and type of credit given may vary from school to school. Please check the admissions page of each college for specific information. In addition to earning college credit through AP exams, students can take college classes through Eastern Florida State College. There are a variety of programs offered: 

On campus dual enrollment: PBMHS offers dual enrollment classes in Early Childhood Education, which can lead to college vocational credit and certifications that allow for employment in licensed childcare facilities. These classes are taught on the high school campus by a high school teacher. A cumulative, unweighted high school GPA of at least 2.5 is required for admissions and qualified students must complete an EFSC application, an EFSC orientation, and have completed one of the following tests: PERT (Reading, Writing, AND Math), ACT, or SAT. These requirements must be met the spring semester before the year you intend to begin the program (for example, in spring of your 11th grade year if you plan to complete the ECE program your senior year).

Part-time dual enrollment: Students may take classes at the EFSC Palm Bay or online campuses and the school district pays for tuition and required textbooks (students will be responsible for a $10.00 access fee each semester and are responsible for paying for their own non- required textbooks). They may enroll in up to three college classes during the fall and spring terms and in one class during the summer. A 3.0 cumulative, unweighted high school GPA is required, and college- ready scores in reading and writing must be obtained through one of the following tests: PERT, SAT, or ACT. Students may be admitted into dual enrollment without earning college- ready math scores but will not be allowed to take college math classes until they earn the needed scores on the PERT, SAT, or ACT math test. Students must complete an application and an orientation no later than the semester before they plan to enroll.

Collegiate High School – Collegiate High School is a specific DE program for 10th and 11th grade students who want to earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree by high school graduation. Students will be allowed to complete up to three college classes during the fall and spring semesters and up to two college classes during the summer. Eligibility criteria are the same for part- time DE with the addition of needing to earn or be enrolled in certain math credits. Qualified students will receive an invitation to participate early in the spring of their 9th or 10th grade school year but may also speak with their guidance counselor to see if they qualify.

Early Admission: Seniors may take four or more college classes during the fall and spring semesters. Early Admissions students do not take any classes at the high school but are still eligible to participate in high school sports, clubs, and senior year activities, such as Grad Bash or prom. Eligibility criteria is the same as part- time DE with the following additions:

Must complete an EA application packet the spring of their junior year (this is in addition to the online EFSC application)

Must have completed all high school graduation requirements except for 1 credit each in English, Math, Science and Social Studies

Must have college- ready reading, writing, AND math scores on the PERT, SAT, or ACT. Scores must be earned no more than 2 years prior to starting classes. 

Full-time dual enrollment: Seniors who did not apply for EA may still have an opportunity to attend EFSC full- time their spring semester. Students must have met all high school graduation requirements and must have college ready reading, writing, AND math scores on the PERT, SAT, or ACT. A separate application packet is not required but students must have the 3.0 minimum GPA and complete the EFSC online application and orientation.

PBMHS is proud to be the only school in the county to offer a special program with Florida Institute of Technology. While students at other high schools may take dual enrollment classes at FIT, they are required to pay up to $100.00 per credit hour.  The Pirates to Panthers program allows qualified PBMHS students to take up to two classes at FIT during the fall and spring of their 11th and 12th grade years FREE OF CHARGE! P2P students who successfully six credit hours with a 3.0 or higher at FIT will automatically be accepted for admission after high school graduation. To participate in the P2P program, students must meet the following criteria before the end of their 10th grade school year: 

• Have a cumulative, unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher

• Earn a combined SAT score of at least 1100 or an ACT composite score of at least 24 (with a math score of 550 (SAT) or 25 (ACT) if courses in math, science or engineering are desired)
