Brevard Public Schools

Dr. Mela began her career with Brevard Public Schools in 1992 upon moving to Florida from Ohio where she taught for nine years. After serving as a teacher at Riviera Elementary School for five years, an elementary specialist at Croton Elementary School for three years, and an assistant principal at Surfside Elementary School for six years, she became principal of Challenger 7 Elementary School. After serving the Port St. John community for twelve years, Dr. Mela assumed the role of Director. Over the past seven years, Dr. Mela has managed Title I and MTSS and has mentored and coached principals at 25 elementary schools. Her desire to effectively and efficiently utilize federal funds to increase student achievement and close achievement gaps is what has resulted in Dr. Mela being named Director of Federal Programs.
