School Social Work Services

Our School Social Work Services office establishes and supports best practice standards for more than 50 professional social workers who provide mental health services and various school social work services for students and families in Brevard Public Schools. The practice standards of the National Association of Social Workers and the School Social Work Association of America guide the establishment of practices and procedure for social work delivery in the schools.

We assess student, family, school, and community needs and develop practice models, staff development activities, and ongoing consultation to administrators and staff. These activities empower and support school social workers in effectively interfacing with students at the schools they serve.

School Social Workers primarily funded through the Mental Health Allocation provide direct services to students by providing individual and small group supports in the areas such as goal setting, solution-focused brief counseling, Check and Connect Mentoring, self-management skills, self-awareness skills, building resilience and problem-solving skills, to name a few.

What is the Role of a School Social Worker?
