AVID

Welcome to AVID at Cocoa High School!

What is AVID?

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and is a national program. At Cocoa High School, we have both AVID classes in grades 7-12 and the expectation that all teachers are implementing the research-based high-quality instructional strategies that AVID refers to as WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading). AVID's primary mission is to promote a college and career focused school culture; at Cocoa High, we set high standards and expectations for our students, encouraging all students to plan for a post-secondary future in either college or a career field. Through college tours, career exploration field trips, guest speakers, and project based learning activities focused on researching, Cocoa AVID students are prepared for success no matter what their after high school plans may be.

To apply to be in AVID class, see Mrs. Browning in 34-113 or your counselor.
