Transition Planning for Military Families

    Military children face many school-related challenges, The Patrick Space Base Liaison can provide information about transition planning, academic options, and resources with regards to the local area, as well as connect you to the School Liaison.

Transition Steps:

  1. Register and enroll at school of choice

  2. Identify as Active Military Duty

  3. Schedule an appointment with the school liaison to meet with an administrator or counselor

  4. Schedule a conference with the classroom teacher

  5. Become a volunteer

  6. Attend Title I Family nights to learn more about programs to assist

  7. Sign your child up for a student-led tour of the school and permission for a student mentor through the Student Led Transition (PAWS ON) Program

Academic Planning for Military Families

  • Information regarding academic standards and opportunities, graduation requirements, DE and AP course offerings, applicable CTE programs, etc. for Brevard Public schools can be found in the Student Progression Plan on the BPS Curriculum and Instruction website.

Resources and Educational Opportunities for Military Children

  • Coquina's afterschool program is grant funded. This program is Monday-Friday, until 6:00. Students have enrichment and tutoring opportunities during this time. Please contact Rachel Burke, coordinator, for information. Military families may have preferential placement.

  • Coquina's Academic Support Program provides tutoring for at risk students.

Student Led Transition Program

The PAWS ON Team consists of students that have an active military family member or retired member and know how transitioning can be challenging.
