Principal
Mrs. Theresa Benson was born and raised in Broward County, Florida. She received a Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Education Degree in Ed. Leadership at Florida Atlantic University (Go Owls!). She taught in Broward County for 14 years, teaching Pre-K to 5th grade from 1992-2006.
In 2006, Mrs. Benson's family relocated to Union County, North Carolina to be closer to family and for career opportunities. Mrs. Benson became the Assistant Principal for three years at the high school and elementary levels. Then from 2009-2018, Mrs. Benson was the Principal at two North Carolina Title 1 schools.
In 2018, the Benson family returned to Florida and now resides in Brevard County. Mrs. Benson has been married to her husband, John, for over 40 years and enjoys taking walks on the beach with their dogs, Lilly and Daisy. Mrs. Benson worked at Williams Elementary teaching 6th grade Math and Science until October 2018 where she was then afforded the opportunity to be the Dean of Students at Viera High School.
In May of 2019, Mrs. Benson was thrilled to be named the Principal at West Melbourne Elementary School for Science. It's been her honor to be a shooting star and she loves working alongside the families and staff at WMSS. Mrs. Benson was quoted saying that "being the principal was the best job in the world. It's a place I can go to make a difference in the lives of children every day!"
