Physical Education

At the West Melbourne Elementary School for Science, our Physical Education (PE) program is designed to foster a lifelong love for fitness and healthy living among our students. Aligned with the Florida Department of Education’s PE standards, our curriculum emphasizes the development of motor skills, physical fitness, and social interaction through engaging activities.

Curriculum Highlights:

  • Skill Development: Our program focuses on building fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing, and catching. Students participate in a variety of sports and games that enhance their coordination and agility.

  • Fitness Education: We promote health and wellness through lessons on the importance of physical fitness, including cardiovascular health, strength training, and flexibility exercises. Regular fitness assessments help students track their progress and set personal goals.

  • Social Skills and Teamwork: Through group activities and team sports, students learn the value of cooperation, respect, and sportsmanship. Our PE classes foster a supportive environment where every child can thrive, regardless of skill level.

  • Health Education: We incorporate discussions on nutrition, healthy habits, and the benefits of an active lifestyle, empowering students to make informed choices about their health.

  • Inclusive Activities: Our program is designed to be inclusive and adaptable, ensuring that all students, regardless of ability, can participate and enjoy physical activity.

Through our comprehensive PE program, students not only meet the Florida Department of Education’s standards but also cultivate essential life skills that contribute to their overall well-being and success.

Tips for a Safe PE Class

  • Have your child wear sneakers on a PE day that either have laces or velcro.

  • Have your child bring a water bottle to school everyday, especially on a PE day.

  • Send in a note if your child needs to rest on a PE day.

  • Send in a doctor note if your child needs to be out of PE for an extended amount of time.
