BPS Families,
The Brevard County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) and local municipalities have been investigating multiple online rumors of potential threats to our schools throughout the district.
At this point, none of these social media posts have been deemed valid by local law enforcement. It appears to be the result of individuals trying to create chaos in our schools. Every threat, real or hoax, is taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. All current threats locally have been thoroughly investigated by law enforcement.
This tremendous influx of misinformation online is understandably causing concern among students, parents, and staff. We want to assure everyone that we take the safety and security of our students seriously and we are working closely with local law enforcement.
This is happening to many school districts throughout the state of Florida, and the country.
We also would like to take this opportunity and ask for your support in speaking with your child regarding the serious nature of making threats to our schools and community. If a student is deemed to have made a threat, disciplinary action will be taken and students will be criminally prosecuted. Please also encourage your child to not share threats posted online as this leads to misinformation and rumors.
To be proactive, the Brevard County School District has increased security measures at our schools. We will continue to remain vigilant as our country experiences this increase in threats of school violence.
We encourage students to continue to do the right thing and report to school administration and/or to law enforcement if they see and/or hear something. We appreciate your understanding and support.
Dr. Mark Rendell
