Mrs. Chinaris

I'm a former New Jersey girl who moved to Port St. John with my family in 1977. I completed my last two years of high school at Titusville High and graduated from Florida State University with a degree in English. A teaching career wasn't a goal that I set for myself and then worked toward. Instead, I meandered around and tripped onto the teaching career path. This is my thirty-first year, and I still believe that being a teacher is one of the many ways in which God has blessed my life.

I taught at Hoover Jr. High for six years. I started here at Space Coast when we opened in 1995. I was glad not to have that commute from Port St. John to Indialantic every day.

Currently I am teaching English IV and AP Literature. In years past, I've taught seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and twelfth graders. I've taught GSP, homogenous and heterogeneous Language Arts, Speech, Drama, Creative Writing, Humanities, SAT Prep, English I, English II, and AP Literature. I’ve taught on  5 of 6,  6 of 7,  5 of 7,  block and modified block schedules.  I have coached drama, forensics, Odyssey of the Mind, Future Problem Solving, and sponsored drama club, poetry club, National Jr. Honor Society and Knowledge Masters. I’ve also been a district CRISS trainer, a Six Traits Writing trainer, and a BEST trainer.

My teaching philosophy could fill volumes, which is an activity that can keep me busy in my retirement. Here it will suffice to say that I try to keep one truth always in mind. The young people I teach are works in progress. The fact that each day I have the chance to shape the clay that is their future is a privilege and an important responsibility.

Outside of school, I serve the community by being a member of the Port St. John Public Library Advisory Board and a member of the Port St. John Planning and Zoning Advisory Board.

Mrs. Susan Dugan

Susan Dugan is a graduate from ESFC  (BCC for those of us older folks) with a degree in Early Childhood Education and  the University of Central Florida with a degree in Social Science Education.  She has been in education for 21 years, and has been teaching at Space Coast for six.  She is a Brevard County native. She has been married since 2003, and has two children, both who attend SCHS.  In her spare time, she loves to do all things outdoors with her family, read, watch the news, and discuss politics.   As an Academies teacher, she hopes to push students to reach their full potential.
