Satellite High School is excited to celebrate Red Ribbon Week from Monday, October 28th through Friday, November 1st, with a series of themed spirit days under the slogan "Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free!" This week-long event encourages students to make healthy, drug-free choices while having fun and engaging in community spirit.
Each day will feature a special theme, as outlined below:
- Monday, October 28th – Dream Big, Live Drug-Free
Students are encouraged to wear their favorite pajamas to symbolize dreaming big, just like at a cozy sleepover filled with movie marathons. Let’s dream big and achieve a drug-free future!
- Tuesday, October 29th – Decades of Drug-Free Fun
It’s Throwback Tuesday! Students can dress in outfits from their favorite movie decades (70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s) to celebrate a drug-free lifestyle across time.
- Wednesday, October 30th – Be a Star, Stay Drug-Free
It’s time for Hollywood glam! Dress like a celebrity or movie star in your best red-carpet attire, emphasizing that you can shine brightly without the use of substances.
- Thursday, October 31st – Scare Away Drugs
In honor of Halloween, students can dress up as their favorite movie villains or spooky characters, symbolizing the importance of staying drug-free and scaring away bad choices. (Note: No masks allowed!)
- Friday, November 1st – Roll Out the Red for a Drug-Free Finale
To cap off the week, students will wear red to support Red Ribbon Week and show their school spirit for the last football game of the season. Let’s roll out the red for a powerful, drug-free ending, both on and off the field.
Why Parent Involvement is Key to Prevention
While the students are participating in these exciting activities, it’s important to remember that parental involvement is one of the most crucial elements in preventing substance use among teens. Studies show that open communication between parents and children about the dangers of drugs and alcohol can significantly reduce the likelihood of experimentation and long-term addiction. By staying involved, modeling healthy behavior, and setting clear expectations, parents can help reinforce the anti-drug message at home.
About the Red Ribbon Campaign
The Red Ribbon Campaign began in 1985 in honor of DEA Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who lost his life while fighting drug trafficking. The campaign has grown into a national initiative that promotes drug prevention, awareness, and education. Schools, families, and communities across the country unite to raise awareness about the dangers of substance use and to encourage a drug-free lifestyle.
We invite all parents, families, and community members to get involved and support this year’s Red Ribbon Week by having ongoing conversations about the importance of staying drug-free. Together, we can continue to create a safe and supportive environment for our youth to thrive.
Let’s make this a fun and impactful week that our students will remember!
