Florida Scholastic Press Association
Elizabeth Sivco – Broadcast TV Instructor
Room 2-104
Meets as announced
Viera High TV News has been top competitors at the Florida Scholastic Press Association’s state convention since 2009.  Only 20 students are selected each year based on their achievements in VHS’s Broadcast Television class. Students enter in the “carry-in” contests where the productions are pre-produced at school and handed in at the convention, as well as “on-the-spot” contests where schools bring their own cameras, audio and editing equipment to the convention.  Students love the FSPA contests because they are exciting and give them a good idea of what life is like for most professional journalists.  Students receive their assignments just minutes before the contest begins and then they must shoot, write, and edit their video packages before the deadline.

The FSPA convention also hosts professional workshops over the course of three days so the students get to network and meet journalists working in the industry.  To learn more about FSPA, visit http://www.jou.ufl.edu/fspa/about/.  The 2012 convention is scheduled for May 3 – 5 at the Wyndham Orlando Resort.  For more information on Viera High TV, visit www.VieraHighTV.com.
