Link to: SHINE Website - (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) is a free program offered by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and your local Area Agency on Aging. Specially trained volunteers can assist you with your Medicare, Medicaid, and health insurance questions by providing one-on-one counseling and information. SHINE services are free, unbiased, and confidential.

For a complete discussion of your personal benefits, contact the Social Security Administration in January of the year you wish to retire--during the year you reach your full retirement age. You should consider different options available that might provide additional benefits to you and your family. Contact SSA at least three (3) months before the month you want to start receiving benefits. You may call 1-(800) 772-1213 or the TTY number for the deaf or hard of hearing 1-(800) 325-0778 between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, to set up an appointment.

To apply for Medicare Part B, you should contact Social Security three (3) months before your last day of employment. To apply call 1-(800) 772-1213 or the TTY number for the deaf or hard of hearing 1-(800) 325-0778 Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
