Elle Curtis, Cassidy Mammay, and Jada Smith use markers to sign a poster for Mrs. Carie Friday. The students wrote encouraging thank you notes all over the poster. “I signed the poster for Mrs. Friday because she’s an incredible role model and I really appreciate all the effort she puts into making the mediacenter, and therefore school, a safe and inviting place to be” said Curtis.

Club Spotlight: Junior SGA Plans Prom

By Isabelle Heise

Student Government has been working hard throughout the school year to put together events for everyone to enjoy. Junior class had one of their annual meetings on the morning of November 13 to discuss one of the most exciting events of the school year: prom. Junior class is sponsored by Mrs. Carrie Friday, so the students are able to meet in the library for their meetings. “Honestly, I knew I wouldn’t not be able to help with my daughter on the council and the junior class really needed a sponsor so I was happy to take that on. Plus I love this class of 2026 so much. I’d do anything for them.” said C.Friday. With the help and support of C. Friday, the junior class student government council has been able to accomplish so much already.

The class president, junior Ansleigh Friday, ran the meetings with the help of the other officers, Dallas Knight, Lillianah Martin, and Renna Petrides. The group of four work together to help make sure that they are on track. “The other officers are always super helpful. They were all a part of student government last year so they’re super knowledgeable about things that I may not be so sure about. I’m super grateful for them,” explained A. Friday. Without their teamwork, they would not be able to set themselves up for success.

During the meeting the students mainly discussed the prom theme. The students voted for their favorite themes to narrow it down to the top six themes. The group then made plans to create a survey for the rest of the juniors and seniors to vote for their top choices. Junior, Elle Curtis, a member of Junior Class SGA, was in attendance and helped make these choices. “It was interesting to see what ideas people came up with and then to see which ideas people liked most,” said Curtis. Some of the members, like Curtis, volunteered to create mood boards for the themes that would help students choose what theme to vote for. The students are doing everything they can to put on a successful prom.

In addition to prom talk, the students also created a poster for their sponsor. All of the members of the junior class signed the poster for C. Friday. They used various colors of marker to fill the poster. “I have been really struggling lately thinking that I’m not doing enough to help students so when I got that poster with so many sweet messages on it, it really made my day.” said C.Friday. The junior class knows how hard their sponsor works and loved getting to express their gratitude.

In Student Government, all classes work hard behind the scenes to help ensure that students have a memorable school year. Prom planning is a lot of work but the Junior class has been doing a lot to make sure it’s one to remember. From picking themes and decorations to creating and sending out the voting, the junior class has done so much already. Their hard work did not go unnoticed. The group hopes they will be able to maintain their productive routine for the months to come.
