Club Spotlight: National Honor Society
By Alma Molander
As the first quarter came to a close, NHS began to accept new members into their club. National Honors society is a club for students who excel academically. After being accepted and inducted into NHS, Liz Von Holten said “I went to the ceremony and my first meeting, they were both great learning experiences.”. Von Holten also stated “I hope to gain volunteer hours and help out my community.”.
Furthermore, Von Holten pointed out additional benefits that led her to join the NHS. Von Holten said “I joined the NHS because I thought that it would look good on college applications and it's something fun to do with my friends.” As one may see, the NHS is not only a club to help one's community but also to improve one's self. Von Holten also pointed out “I know that the NHS is a good opportunity to make a difference and prove to colleges that I stand out.”
Additionally, Von Holten said “This is my first year in the NHS but I also participated in NJHS in middle school.”. NJHS was designed to prepare middle schoolers for the National Honors society in High School. In NJHS, there are many similar aspects that parallel the NHS.
Lastly, Von Holten also is a pre-IB student. She has taken many rigorous courses such as advanced placement world history and a variety of honors and pre-IB classes. Von Holten stated, “my involvement in NHS hopefully will show colleges that I can handle extracurricular activities on top of AP and IB classes.” NHS is certainly a club that stood out. Many students participate in the NHS throughout the United States and Melbourne High School is thankful for the opportunity to offer this club to the MHS students
