Samantha Rodriguez donates toys for Toys for Tots

National Honors Society (NHS) Hosts a Toy Drive

The joy of the holidays has students across the school full of cheer. This was especially true for all of the students who chose to help with the Toys for Tots toy drive. The members of the National Honors Society (NHS) participate in monthly service projects, and for December, the members were required to help out with Toys for Tots. Some chose to bring toys in while others chose to spend time sorting toys that had been gifted. No matter how the students participated, they made a difference in their community.

There are many reasons why participating in service projects is important. It can help better the community but also the students. Senior Regan Faherty, the NHS treasurer, notes just how much these service projects can help the students. “I think the NHS service projects matter because it instills some confidence in the students that they are doing good for their community”, said Faherty. NHS provides opportunity for students to grow while giving back to their community.

The Toys for Tots toy drive was just one example of how students are able to better their community through NHS. Many children do not have the luxury of waking up to gifts every Christmas, but with the help of organizations like Toys for Tots, families are able to receive gifts and make joyful memories during the Holiday season. Junior Samantha Rodriguez is one of the many students who chose to donate a toy this year. “Obviously we are not a huge corporation and there is only so much we can do, but I think our participation in things like this really do make an impact,” said Rodriguez. When it comes to organizations like Toys for Tots, even a small donation, of a toy or of time, goes a long way.

The students' involvement in Toys for Tots toy drive was appreciated by many. Whether the students chose to bring in a toy or sign up to help sort the donated toys, they made a difference in the community. Everyone who helped worked hard to ensure that children all over the community are able to have a happy holiday season. Donations of gifts and of time could never be forgotten.
