Boys huddle up after a game.

Sport Spotlight: Boys Soccer By Antonio Rivera

In an intense match full of twists and turns, Our varsity boys soccer team pulled off a thrilling 5-3 win against West Shore Jr/Sr High School. Things looked tough when West Shore came out strong after halftime, scoring two quick goals to take a 3-2 lead. But the team wasn’t ready to give up. A long ball into West Shore’s defensive half set the stage for an incredible comeback, with two late goals sealing the victory.

After the game, Coach Trey Collins shared his thoughts. One big moment was a controversial retry penalty kick. “The ref said their keeper came off the line early, so they got to retake it. Honestly, I’d like to know the exact rule because it’s been called differently before,” Collins said. Despite that frustration, he was proud of how the team fought back. “Being down 3-2 and still coming back to win says a lot about the boys. It wasn’t our best first half, but they didn’t quit, and that’s something special.”

Coach Collins also talked about the team’s mindset going into the game. “We had a rough week before Thanksgiving, so this was about resetting and refocusing,” he said. “It wasn’t perfect, but we got the win, and that’s what matters. This is the kind of game we can look back on to remind ourselves what we’re capable of when we work hard.”

The win gave the team a much-needed boost, showing their grit and determination. With this comeback under their belts, they’re ready to take on the rest of the season with confidence.
