Article: Students Reflect on District's Mental Health Lessons By Becca Brightwell
When many think about mental health, some don't think of what goes into it. At least that is what senior Addison Kohler though when mental health days came back on December 2nd. “I didn't think that the mental day was going to be good. In the past the lessons were not all that good, but this time it has potential to share awareness.” Kohler said, “The mental health days can be overwhelming at times but it can be eye opening. The lesson was on emotional intelligence and setting health boundaries and that is very important in high school and outside of high school.” Kohler said
While listening to the lesson, students got to learn how to handle emotions and how to see boundaries and how to make them. They used examples from Inside Out and dealing with a situation requires some emotions like when dealing with a loss in the family you can’t always push it aside.
“Mental health days are important and should be taken seriously and not a laughing matter.” Kohler said. With life comes struggles and knowing how to handle those struggles with people who care about you and who want the best for you, it will help you in the long run. Like the mental health lessons, if they are taken seriously.
