Club Spotlight: First Priority by Chloe Strong
For sophomore Abby Miller, her routine involving her faith and First Priority is essential in her day. While her schedule is packed including school, work, and a social life, attending First Priority early in the morning demonstrates her commitment to her Christian faith. Miller says, “I wake up to get ready for school and I usually get coffee in the morning. So, when I get to school I go to the library for first priority. After school I usually go to work. If I don't go to work I usually will go for a run and listen to the best hype Christian music.” First priority provides a grounding influence in what a day is like for Abby.
First priority is a space to connect with others and explore their faith. The club gives an opportunity for spiritual growth and forming a community within members of the group to build their fellowship together. Miller said, “ I look forward to going to see my friends and learn more about Jesus”. Abby embraces the sentiment of what this club gives both social connection and religious education in a supportive environment.
First Priority club welcomes everyone, and sophomore Bentli Saxon showed up feeling wanted. This atmosphere draws-in students like her. Saxon says, “I joined first priority by showing up to a meeting. They let anyone come anytime. I felt like I needed more clubs and I have been meaning to go since I am christian and believe having a community is important.” Her desire is to have this connection with a community bonding over the same beliefs.
A valuable thing members like about First Priority is the worship. Music gives a unique deep connection within people and beginning a day with worship could be positive and uplifting. Saxon says, “My favorite thing about the first priority is the worship because music is so impactful and can start my day off nicely.” This experience is like no other that allows members within to connect with faith and have a sense of peace and purpose.
